LaVerne Elms has spent more than 38 years in the hospitality industry. Her last job was working in the business centre at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver .LaVerne was with the hotel for 10 years, part time in many departments. She also holds a software degree and loves cooking. Her last job in the closed season of her restaurant was working at the Hart House in Burnaby B.C. She recently was in Mexico for a few months and took on the culinary scene there and came back with so much more knowledge and respect for the love of food. She believes handling food with love makes all the difference.
LaVerne has been operating LaVerne’s Grill in Garden Bay since 2001. Ask LaVerne what her best dish is and she may say, “Hmmm, that’s hard, read my guest book and you can be the judge! I make about 90 percent of the menu from fresh ingredients. I do have to confess that the Fish and Chips a very popular. Personally I love my burgers, and I only eat burgers here!”
